This coin from the Mexico City mint was produced during the reign of King Charles III (1759-88). It is a 39mm coin of 91.70% silver, weighing 27.07 grams.\n<\/p>\n

The obverse with date shows the Pillars of Hercules at the Straight of Gibraltar. On the left Pillar is “Plus”, on the right Pillar is “Vltra”, meaning “more beyond” indicating Spain’s claim to the world.
